Luke 9:23-26 – What Jesus Actually Meant by “Disciple”

What does it really mean to follow Jesus? In Luke 9:23–26, Jesus makes it clear that discipleship isn’t about adding Him to your life, it’s about surrendering your life completely. This sermon explores the true cost of following Christ: denying yourself, taking up your cross daily, and living in obedience to Him. While the world tells us to chase comfort and success, Jesus presents a paradox, real life is only found when we give ours away. The message ends with a sobering warning: gaining everything in this world is meaningless if you lose your soul. This is a call to move beyond casual Christianity and embrace true, life-changing discipleship.

A disciple is not someone who adds Jesus to their life, but someone who dies to their life in order to follow him.
