Hebrews 5:11-6:3 – Why So Many Stay Stuck

Hebrews 5:11-6:3 – Why So Many Stay Stuck

Spiritual growth does not happen automatically. In Hebrews 5:11–6:3, the author warns believers who had become “dull of hearing.” They had been around God’s Word for a long time, but they were not truly receiving it or growing from it. This sermon challenges us to examine whether we are maturing in Christ or remaining spiritually childish, still needing milk when we should be ready for solid food. Spiritual immaturity shows up when we cannot feed ourselves from Scripture, explain the basics of the faith, apply God’s Word to daily life, or discern good from evil. God calls us to leave immaturity behind and go on to maturity, not by abandoning the basics of the faith, but by building on them. We grow through the ordinary means of grace: gathering with the church, sitting under the Word, praying, serving, worshiping, and personally learning to hear, read, study, meditate on, memorize, and apply Scripture.

You will never accidentally drift into maturity. In fact, drifting will take you the other way.
