Drive-in Church – Luke 2:8-20 – The Good News

Drive-in Church – Luke 2:8-20 – The Good News

With the virus spreading around, we had to move church out into the parking lot and hold our very first drive-in church. This Sunday, Pastor Kyle preached about the good news that can give people hope even in the midst of scary times.

The good news of Jesus Christ can overshadow the bad news of the virus!

Luke 2:8-20 – Good News

Pastor Kyle Lewis

Luke 2:8-9

8 And in the same region [near Jesus] there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.

Luke 2:20

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

Luke 2:10-12

10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”

“Good News”

  1. 11 – V. 11 – For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

1) Savior

Do you recognize you need saving?

Romans 3:23 – “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

2) Christ: King and Deliverer

3) Lord: authority

“Not only does he have the desire, but he also has the means!”

The good news of Jesus Christ can give you hope during this fearful time.

1) The good news overshadows the bad news.

  1. 10 – “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”

1 Cor. 15:54-55,

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

Luke 2:13-14

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Luke 2:20

And the shepherds returned [from seeing baby Jesus], glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

2) The good news brings joy.

If the good news does not cause you to celebrate, then you are likely in one of these two camps…

1) You are forgetting (or ignoring) something you knew.

2) You don’t fully understand it.

Luke 2:15-18

15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.

Closing Story

Louis Zamperini

“When [Louie] thought of his history, what resonated with him now was not all that he had suffered but the divine love that he believed had intervened to save him. He was not the worthless, broken, forsaken man that the [Japanese prison guard] had striven to make him. In a single, silent moment, his rage, his fear, his humiliation and helplessness, had fallen away. That morning, he believed, he was a new creation.” -Lauren Hildenbrand
