Morning Fuel – 2 Corinthians 3:12 – Boldness and Hope

In a previous devotional I talked about how being filled with the Spirit can make us bold in speaking about Jesus. Today I want to talk about boldness again, but this time as it relates to approaching God.

In 2 Corinthians 3:12, Paul writes, “Since we have such a hope, we are very bold…”

There are two things to see here.

When Paul says “hope,” he is referring to what Jesus Christ did on the cross. Once Jesus died and rose again, he ushered in a new covenant. Under this new covenant, we are declared righteous before God through Jesus… not ourselves.

This is great news because now we do not need to worry if we have sinned too much to be a Christian or even if we have committed some great sin that will kick us out of the family. Thanks to Jesus Christ, we are made right, and we can approach God no matter how sinful we are.

That is why Paul says we can be bold! We are bold not because we are cocky or arrogant. We are bold because we have humbled ourselves and taken the blood of Christ on our lives. So now we approach God through Jesus Christ, not our power.

So let me encourage you… don’t think your sin prevents you from reading the Bible today. Don’t think your sin prevents you from praying today. Don’t think your sin prevents you from going to church.

Through Jesus, you can boldly approach the throne of God (Hebrews 4:16).

So go ahead. Approach him boldly. Jesus says we can.
